Ground Source Heat Pump Courses in the UK
Ground source heat pumps (GSHPs) extract heat from the ground and are prized for high efficiency and longevity. Training follows the same Level 3 framework as ASHP, frequently delivered as a combined course. This guide explains the route to certification.
What the course covers
GSHP training covers ground-loop design principles, system types, hydraulic emitter circuits, installation, commissioning and maintenance. It is usually delivered as part of a Heat Pump Technology (2 days) + Ground Source (1 day) package, or combined with ASHP for a 4-day award.
Qualification and MCS
The LCL Awards / BPEC Level 3 Award in Heat Pump Systems (covering ground and air source) is recognised by MCS. You need it to register as an MCS-certified ground source installer.
Cost and funding
Combined heat pump awards cost in the region of £700–£900 + VAT. Funded routes via Skills Bootcamps and some manufacturer programmes may be available.
