EPC Ratings Explained
Your EPC rating decides which free upgrades you can get — and signals how much you could save. This guide explains bands, how they're set, and what to do before you buy or apply.

The bands
A (most efficient) to G (least). Most retrofit grants target D, E, F and G; A–C usually don't qualify for funded measures.
How it's set
A Domestic Energy Assessor produces the EPC using RdSAP (moving to the Home Energy Model). It reflects insulation, heating, glazing and renewables.
Check and improve
Look up your EPC free on the government EPC register. A new assessment can qualify you if an old one under-rates the home. Upgrades aim to reach band C.
